Container Gardening Report

I was reading an article about container gardening and it reads: “Feed monthly with a balanced fertilizer, and deadhead spent flowers regularly to keep them blooming.” Are we just talking about getting rid of the old flowers? Or is there any particular way you have to cut the flowers in order to encourage more blooms? Thanks!

My mother got one for Mother’s day. It is very droopy. It has only been three days. It has purple flowers and white flowers, I don’t know what types. It has been watered every day. It has been getting about an hour of direct sunlight and some lots of shade. We live in massachussets. We gave it fertilizer once, on the first day.
